Sulley Muntari’s initial refusal to apologize is the reason why he was dropped from Black Stars according to the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The midfielder was asked to apologize to the national team boss after a foul mouthed rant at him after he was substituted in the team’s World Cup clash against Lesotho.
His initial refusal to apologize led to coach Kwasi Appiah insisting the player would not be allowed back into the team until a formal written apology was submitted.
The player submitted the letter but it came too late to change the mind of the national team boss.
“Let me say from the onset we support the coach’s actions but before he takes these decisions there are consultation that go on and we agreed with him that although Sulley had rendered an apology it came too late so he should be considered for future assignments and we understood him”,the F.A boss told Allsports in an interview.
Nyantakyi says the coach also called Sulley after the decision was made to explain the reasons behind his absence.
“The coach himself spoke to Muntari and he is cool with it and so i don’t think there is any problem with that decision.”
