ONE DEATH 14 INJURED AFTER FC TWENTE STADIUM COLLEPSES

One death and 14 people injured after roof of Twente stadium collapses

The mayor of Enschede has confirmed that one person has died, while several people have been wounded after the roof of one of the stands in the Eredivisie side's stadium collapses.

Peter den Oudsten, the mayor of Enschede, has stated during a press conference that one person has died in an accident in the stadium of Eredivisie outfit Twente. The roof of one of the stands in the Grolsch Veste collapsed earlier today while builders were working on the stadium.

Den Oudsten added that a total of 14 people were injured in the accident and 10 have been taken to the hospital. Two of the injured persons are in serious condition.

The search for survivors who are trapped under the rubble is still ongoing with police dogs and cameras.

TC/Tubantia reported earlier today that several workers got trapped under the rubble after two girders didn't hold up. It's not yet know what caused the support beams to collapse.

Several ambulances immediately rushed to the stadium, while a trauma helicopter arrived, too. The train station has been closed to make sure all help units can arrive at the place of the accident.

The 2010 Eredivisie champions' stadium is under construction as they are expanding their home soil and the roof gave way in the part they're currently working on.

Twente are currently on a training camp in Zeeland, but club president Joop Munsterman is on his way back to Enschede after being informed of the news. credit; goal.com
